SECTORS

Consulting & Technology Services

Singapore is a regional hub of choice for Professional Services firms, offering a cosmopolitan workforce and trusted regulatory framework. Ranked as one of the world’s easiest places to do business, many MNCs set up their regional or global headquarters here to mine pan-Asian insights, conduct R&D, and deploy regional strategies. This creates aggregated demand for professional services firms to help MNCs tailor solutions to Asia’s diverse consumer markets and navigate different countries’ commercial systems. The Professional Services sector, together with the Information and Communications sector, account for more than 400,000 jobs in Singapore and continue to power the growth of jobs for the country.

Assurance
In today's complex operating environment, there is a need in every company to protect and strengthen every aspect of their business from people to performance, systems to strategy, business plans to business resilience. Risk is a fact of life for business – and it is growing in importance to businesses around the world. It exists in various forms, from potential cybersecurity breaches to possible breaks in the supply chain.

Consulting and Technology Services
It is difficult to operate a business efficiently without the application of technology. For any business (tech or non-tech), technology plays a key role in its everyday operations as well as growth. Technology continues to evolve in sophistication with companies investing in technology consulting services.

Disruptive Economy

Businesses are entering the “third era of IT,” where they are no longer just considering digital transformation but are implementing and scaling it. Anything-as-a-Service (XaaS) is the delivery of everything or anything-as-a-service and where it is disrupting how products and services are being measured, to a lesser extent by customer-perceived value and more through realised customer experience

Digital Transformation
Companies are undergoing their own transformation as they evolve from brick-and-mortar to omni-channels of distribution in a borderless world. Businesses are learning how to operation through remote staff catering to an international audience in a real time environment. This impacts front to backend processes as companies gradually move from on-premises infrastructure to cloud as they recreate digital products & services.

This can include Consumer & Media to Industrial & Robotics companies where traditionalists try to look “tech” and tech companies looking to introduce savvy ways of bridging between buyers and sellers.

Emerging Growth

As mature entrepreneurs ourselves originally schooled in larger corporate MNC environments, we are empathetic of the challenges of start-ups and small businesses looking to scale. This includes the ability to navigate change and ambiguity, and their related challenges in human capital when it comes to attracting and retaining good people within a resource constraint environment.

Our team include nationalities from Southeast Asia and China who have lived and worked internationally. This allows us to be more in tune with cultural sensitivities with the personal background that lends us credibility as an effective bridge between hires and hirees new to a foreign land.

Greenfield Set Up
This will typically include the digital economy or innovation related themes, and can cover a wider range of sectors as technology today is no longer a vertical silo-ed industry but a key horizontal enablement across all industries.

New Business Unit (as part of a larger corporate)
Examples of assignments undertaken include the set-up of a new innovation lab, a new product or services offering or a business practice carved out of a new market segmentation.

Portfolio Companies of Private Equity or Venture Capital funds
Through our successful engagement with PE/VC clients, we have been introduced to hire for their portfolio companies with a view of hiring professionals who can eventually take them to a profitable exit.

Funds & Financials

According to the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), through the COVID-19 pandemic, asset managers have adjusted to remote working, with minimal disruption to fundraising, new product development, and operational expansion plans through this crisis. Singapore’s AUM grew through this period. Managers across the traditional and alternative sectors, as well as leading global public owners, continued to anchor their investment teams in Singapore to tap the region’s growth opportunities and to domicile their investment funds in Singapore using the Variable Capital Company (VCC) framework.

Financial Technology & Digital Assets
Investors are looking to participate in the emergence of the digital economy fueled by new technology capabilities and the access to big data that can be used for improving lives, reducing costs, changing systems & processes, and enhancing the consumer experience. This can include market data platforms, crowdfunding, P2P lenders, wealth related robo-advisory AI funds and digital assets such as cryptocurrency.

Private Market

Private market (in particular, venture capital, private equity or debt) activities continue to be resilient as investors look to higher returns from the public markets. Our coverage typically starts at Series A to Pre-IPO stages where we work with both financiers and portfolio companies in their respective hiring.

Public Market
This is a mature market in Singapore especially for long-only firms across both retail & institutional funds. The more visible hiring activities are for hedge funds operating macro or long-short strategies applying for Capital Markets Services (CMS) licences in Singapore. The related hiring includes licenced brokerages & securities firms.

Family Office
The concept of a ‘Family Office’ has been a popular one with Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) families choosing to set up their own investment vehicles. The ‘pull’ is the preference for autonomy and long term cost efficiency when there is substantial wealth; the ‘push’ could be poor experience with the professional managers and the increasing burden placed by compliance. The majority of hiring seen has been Asian names with Europeans and Australians as the next larger group. It normally starts off as a non-regulated privately held company before seeking to qualify for a licence to manage third party monies.

Quantitative Investment
Quantitative investing, also known as systematic investing, uses advanced mathematical modelling and data analysis to calculate the optimal probability of executing a profitable trade. This sector is limited in Singapore though we do see a convergence into Quantamental techniques through a hybrid syle involving fundamental methods.

Green & Sustainable Finance
A growing number of financial institutions and service providers have set up sustainability hubs in Singapore to accelerate their sustainable finance agenda in Asia-Pacific. Singapore has become a “green centre” for many institutions to drive their sustainable investing strategies and stewardship activities.
